I’m sitting here again, in front of the computer, thinking about what to write on this new blog post. I’m thinking that I don’t really want to write about what I’m wearing, even though this is technically a fashion blog; but that I want to write about something more deep and serious.
I was talking to some friends yesterday about the «poor me» concept, and I’ve decided to talk to you, who read me, about it because sometimes you have to hear it from someone else to realize that most of us sin of feel bad about ourselves.
Most of us, sooner or later, have a bad day (including me). But what we don’t realize is that that bad day can be subjective. A bad day for you may not be such a bad day for me, it all depends on the attitude with which we face the events. That you failed a test, that the shirt that you wanted to wear is stained, that your friends decided to not go out one night and you had to stay in watching TV, that you didn’t find the shoes that you wanted to buy, that you had to stay until later at work – are a few examples of what we usually complain about and relate to a bad day, sometimes we créate drama over these things and talk about them like it’s the end of the world.
What we don’t think about is that our real problem is a lack of gratitude. Why not appreciate and be grateful about being able to go to school and that if you study a bit more you can ace that test, be thankful about having a shirt to wear (and that you probably have other shirts to wear while you clean that one), that you have a house, a tv and a couch where you can spend that night that your friends decided not to go out, that you have the money to buy those shoes that you want and you can keep looking for them, and finally, that you have a job and you can pay your expenses.
So, lets try to change our perspective and start thanking for those things that are not going the way we want. Maybe those events are happening to you so you can learn to appreciate the things you have.
«The problem is not the problem;
the problem is your attitude about the problem.»
