Cleaning your makeup brushes is one of those chores that we all wish we could avoid because it is very tedious, but it is actually the most important step in our makeup routine. Makeup brushes fill up with product, germs and bacteria that we shouldn’t reaply to our faces because they can break us out or irritate our skin.
There are two ways to clean your makeup brushes: 1. A spot cleaning: for when you want to switch colors (blushes, eye shadows, etc.) and get rid of some of the germs and makeup product of the brush. You should do it every time you want to switch colors or once a week. 2. A deep cleaning: it helps eliminate all traces of makeup product, germs and bacteria in your brushes. You should do it at least once a month.
Spot cleaning your brushes is actually pretty simple. I use the MAC Brush Cleanser, which I spritz on top of a piece of a paper towel and then I swirl the brush gently on the product. The good thing about a spot cleaning is that the brushes dry very quickly so you can use the brushes again instantly.
